Classwork
Students are always expected to try their best while they are in class. Most classwork will be completed during class time. However, if an assignment is not completed in class it will carry over as homework.
Homework
Your child will be expected to read daily for thirty minutes. This is the single most important thing your child can do to improve their reading. Each night your student will have a log for an adult to sign showing they have read for thirty minutes. This log will be checked daily. Students are expected to get one signature for Friday night to be checked on Monday. A signature for Friday and Saturday is not required. If your child has lost or forgotten their log a simple note will work stating they read.
Other homework for reading and writing will change daily. Please check and sign their assignment books daily ensure they don't miss any work. Homework assignments are typically due the next day unless otherwise noted.

Behavior Expectations
I have high expectations for every student within my classroom and behavior is no exception. In the classroom I have employed several strategies to increase student behavior. Within the first week of school the fourth grade class will collaboratively develop the rules for the classroom. Following the activity they will all sign the agreed contract stating they understand and will follow the classroom expectations. Students who violate a procedure will be given a warning by moving their color on the behavior chart to yellow. If a student continues to violate the classroom rules they will then have to change their color to orange. The consequence for orange is a loss of recess or activity time. For extreme behaviors students will go to red. This is for behaviors that no longer can be handled in the classroom. Parents will receive a phone call and the student may be removed from the class for a period of time.
Students receive various incentives for positive behavior which could include extra recess, a note home, becoming the teacher assistant, lunch with the teacher, angler of the week award, student of the month, moving their behavior clip up to purple, and extra computer time.
